Originally from eastern Maine, Kate Elizabeth Russell lives in Lawrence, Kansas with her husband and catahoula leopard dog. Kate holds a PhD from the University of Kansas and an MFA from Indiana University, and her fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in Juked, Necessary Fiction, Quarterly West, Mid-American Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Crab Orchard Review, and other journals. Her writing focuses largely on the long-term psychological affects of sexual violence, adolescent girlhood, and eerie human-canine relationships. She is currently at work on two novels, one set in Maine and the other in the Ukrainian Chernobyl exclusion zone.
