Kate Elizabeth Russell is originally from eastern Maine but now lives in Lawrence, Kansas with her husband and catahoula leopard dog. Her fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in Necessary Fiction, Quarterly West, Mid-American Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Crab Orchard Review, and other journals. Kate is a graduate of the creative writing MFA at Indiana University and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Kansas. Her writing focuses largely on the long-term psychological affects of sexual violence and on eerie human-canine relationships. She is currently at work on two novels, one set in a re-imagined Bangor, Maine and the other in the Ukrainian Chernobyl exclusion zone.
